This competition entry, which was shortlisted to the final 10 entrants, was to provide a new Visitors centre for the Lenggong Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site. Having recently received the accreditation, the client wished to upgrade their current visitors centre for something befitting the new title. They required several mixed use temporary exhibition spaces, research laboratories and a permanent exhibition space which could be minutely monitored to house the “Perak Man” – the oldest Homosapien remains found in South east Asia.
Our design focused on the interpretation of Archaeology into the building concept. Taking the ideas of Excavation, Preservation, Celebration and Education as key cornerstones for our design, we designed a multi-use space that could be reconfigured to the client’s requirements as the need arose. By perching the centre at the top of the nearby hill, granted us 360 degree vistas of the surrounding landscape to which we included a cafe to service the visitors and provide a new community node all year round.
